AMPLIFY GIRLS IS NOW PART OF THE GENERATION EQUALITY MULTI-STAKEHOLDER LEADERSHIP GROUP

AMPLIFY Girls is now part of the Generation Equality Multi-Stakeholder Leadership Group representing the youth and adolescent-led organizations’ voices to advise on and shape Generation Equality accountability, processes, and impact.

In centering adolescent girls in the GEF conversation, AG is represented by Karekyezi Gracious, a 19-year-old Ugandan girl currently pursuing a certificate course in midwifery at the Kampala International Hospital. Gracious is also a beneficiary of AMPLIFY Girls’ partner - Girls to Lead Africa (GTLA) girls` agency programs and alumni of the AMPLIFY GIRLS Fellowship program.

She participates in GTLA’s community development work in sensitizing the community on girls’ Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and menstrual hygiene. Gracious was also the Head Girl at her previous school, St. Theresa Girls School. Gracious also actively participated in the Global Town Hall Meetings leading up to CSW67.

Background of the Generation Equality Leadership Group

The Generation Equality Forum (GEF) was a historic global gathering for gender equality, convened by UN Women and co-hosted by France and Mexico in partnership with civil society and youth. As a multistakeholder initiative, it brought together representatives from governments, civil society and youth organizations, the UN system, the private sector, and philanthropic actors to accelerate progress for gender equality and women's rights over the next five years. These partners worked collaboratively to support the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action as the world rebuilds better and more equal after the COVID-19 pandemic.

A key ask of these partners in the follow-up to the Forum was the continued promotion of the multi-stakeholder model that defined Generation Equality, including through the establishment of a multi-stakeholder partner engagement structure to advise and support decision-making for the initiative, in addition to existing leadership structures, such as the Action Coalitions leadership structures and the Compact.

Announced during the Generation Equality Accountability Moment on 23 September, the Multi-Stakeholder Leadership Group has been established to support UN Women in driving the forward Generation Equality agenda, ensuring multi-stakeholder collaboration remains at the core of the initiative.

The Multi-Stakeholder Leadership Group is composed of selected Action Coalition Leaders, Commitment Makers, and Compact Signatories representing governments, civil society, international organizations, the private sector, youth organizations, and philanthropy. Together, we will uplift diverse voices to advise on and shape Generation Equality accountability, processes, and impact over the next four years.
