The Charter for Change – Kenya Working Group: Open Discussion Forum #3, October 25th, 2022

On October 25th, 2022 at 11 am (EAT), AMPLIFY Girls joined the Charter for Change – Kenya working group members on a virtual discussion. Topic: Funding in Localisation.

In reference to the Charter for Change Commitments, point number one on direct funding stipulates the commitment to pass 25% of humanitarian funding to national and local NGO’s. Signatories to Charter for Change commit through advocacy and policy to influence donors and encourage them to increase the year-on-year percentage of humanitarian funding going to national and local NGO’s. Signatory organizations also commit to introduce their partners to their direct donor with the aim of accessing direct funding. Endorsers organizations on the other hand commit to holding themselves & their respective partners accountable in all the humanitarian funding received.

As INGO partners and donors are increasing direct funding to their local NGO partners it is noted that trust is very key in paving for power sharing and local leadership in humanitarian response. Trust is not given – It is earned. Endorsers commit to being good stewards of funds entrusted to them and observe the highest level of accountability to the intended recipients – the people affected by crises.

This  1.5hr open forum discussion brought members together to share experiences in regards to funding in localization as well as re-orient new members on the fundamentals of localization with a focus on the issue of funding.
